Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Walkthrough Part 2 pokemon Rocket Edition mt.moon

It's time to leave Five Isle Meadow. Your second mission from Archer is to sail to Kanto. So, exit the Rocket Warehouse headquarters and head to Five Island. At the harbor, you'll be greeted by a Sailor and Andra, who is already there. Once you speak with them, get ready.

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Cutscene Triggered!

The scene briefly shifts away from you. The screen displays the interior of a luxurious mall. There, you'll see three familiar figures: the wise Professor Oak and Daisy. Their conversation is mysterious but clearly tied to something much larger. Keep it in mind.

After the cutscene, your ship docks. You have officially arrived in Vermilion City.

Arriving in Vermilion City

  • Your feet touch the Vermilion docks. Your first task in this city is simple: head straight to the Pokémon Center. However, just a few steps in, a mysterious man suddenly appears and blocks your path. This brief interaction might seem random, but trust me, he's no ordinary extra.
  • Head north out of the city toward Route 6 and enter the legendary Underground Path.

Route 6 (Underground Path): A Duel Underground

The atmosphere in this underground path is dim and quiet. Perfect for an unexpected duel. Sure enough, you'll bump into Andra again. It seems she was waiting for you on purpose. The challenge is clear: defeat her in battle! She might be slightly stronger than your last encounter, so ensure your team is in top condition.

After winning, Andra will rush off. Follow her. Her path will lead you out of the Underground Path and onto Route 5.

Route 5 (DayCare)

As soon as you arrive at Route 5, you'll immediately recognize the iconic building there: the Pokémon DayCare. Enter it. Inside, you'll find Andra already chatting with the DayCare Grandpa. Their conversation hints at something suspicious behind the DayCare.

It turns out to be true. There's a secret hideout hidden here. Follow Andra into the hidden door or path leading to the Rocket Hideout.

Rocket Hideout: New Mission from Petrel

This secret hideout is quite well-equipped. Before proceeding, familiarize yourself with the facilities. Inside, you can find:

  • Shop: Buy items and even Pokémon.
  • Healing Station: Free of charge, so use it as much as you like.

Once ready, it's time to find the heart of the hideout. Locate Petrel's office. There, Andra is already waiting for you—somehow, she's always one step ahead. Petrel, in his characteristic style, will immediately outline your main mission in this region:

Mission Target: Retrieve the Pokémon Fossil located at Mt. Moon. If possible, also grab the Moon Stone and Nugget you can find there. Consider them operation bonuses.

The orders are clear. Now, leave this secret hideout and head toward Cerulean City. From there, the journey to Mt. Moon will continue.

Cerulean City: Impromptu Operation

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Upon arriving in Cerulean City, a Team Rocket member suddenly forces you to join their "small-scale operation": extorting a poor hiker named Boris. As a rookie, you have no choice but to obey.

Defeat Hiker Boris in a duel. As a reward, you can take TM Dig and Soft Sand from him.

Suggestion Before Proceeding:

Take a moment to visit the PokéMart and buy several Repels. You will be very grateful to have them inside Mt. Moon later.

Once business in the city is settled, head left toward Route 4. This is the main access point to Mt. Moon.

Route 4: The Path to the Cave

The journey on Route 4 is short, but don't miss the bonus items and duels:

  • TM16 Light Screen: Found along the way. Keep your eyes peeled.
  • Black Belt Duel: You will encounter the duo fighters, Chan & Lee. Defeat both of them to obtain a Silk Scarf.

After everything is cleared, continue walking left. The entrance to Mt. Moon awaits.

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Mt. Moon: The Fossil Mission Begins

As soon as you enter, you are greeted by the typical rocky scenery, darkness, and the scent of Team Rocket's exploitation. A group of Rocket members is already inside, led by a man named H.R. Frank. Here, you get a situation update: Andra has already secured one fossil. Your task is to secure the last one.

Mt. Moon Exploration Tips:

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Don't just focus on the main path. Press and inspect every suspicious rock you encounter. Many hidden items are concealed within, including Mushrooms, Moon Stones, and other rare goods.

Explore every corner of the cave and collect all scattered items. Moon Stone, Rare Candy, Star Piece, TM9 Bullet Seed, And many others.

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Now, here is the crucial part. Find the area where you locate TM46 Thief. To the right of that location, a short scene will trigger. You will meet Green/Gary. He seems to have found the fossil you were after earlier but left it behind because he already has a water-type Blastoise. Take the Dome Fossil he abandoned. Main mission success... for now.

Step Outside: The Swindler on Route 4

Continue through Mt. Moon until you find the exit leading to the other side of Route 4. To the right outside, there is a Pokémon Center. Stop by.

Inside, you will meet a suspicious man offering a powerful Pokémon for only ₽500. It sounds too good to be true. And sure enough, as soon as you agree and pay, he scams you and runs away.

Report to H.R. Frank and a Dangerous Bet

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Now, re-enter Mt. Moon and find H.R. Frank. Show him the Dome Fossil you obtained. He might be slightly impressed, but don't expect praise just yet. The mission is done; it's time to leave.

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Head north toward the exit. Just before leaving, a man named Super Nerd Miguel suddenly appears. It turns out he is holding the Helix Fossil, while you have the Dome Fossil. He looks at you with a challenging smile and proposes a bet: a one-on-one duel, where the winner takes both fossils.

Choose "Yes" and defeat him. Both fossils are now in your hands. But the euphoria is short-lived.

Mysterious Intervention

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Immediately after Miguel falls, an emergency warning appears on the screen. A dangerous trainer is approaching. The next second, the mysterious figure is standing before you. Without hesitation, he challenges you to a duel, sending out a highly formidable Charmeleon at Level 32.

This battle is designed for you to lose. Charmeleon's power is too high for your current level. Once your team faints, you are forced to retreat, bouncing back to the Pokémon Center on Route 4. And worse... the Dome Fossil and Helix Fossil you just won have vanished from your grasp.

Back to the Scene: Frank's Anger

With empty hands, re-enter Mt. Moon and go to the place where you met Miguel. The atmosphere has turned chilling. Several Rocket members have gathered, and H.R. Frank stands there with a face full of rage. He is furious that the Dome Fossil is missing. Although Andra tries to defend you, Frank doesn't care. He challenges you to a battle.

Part 2 - Mt.Moon The Fossil Mission Pokemon Rocket Edition

Defeat H.R. Frank in combat. This victory may not return your fossils, but at least it saves a bit of your pride.

Retreat Route: Report to Petrel

The Mt. Moon operation ends in failure. There is nothing more to be done here. Return to Route 5 via the same path, enter the DayCare, and then the Rocket Hideout.

At the headquarters, go to Petrel's office to report. He has heard everything. Without saying much, Petrel will immediately confiscate all your money as punishment for the failed Mt. Moon mission. Brutal, indeed. But that is the price of failure in Team Rocket.
